Welcome to the Rehan Lab Guide to Wild Bees!
Whether you have arrived here an expert in the field of native bee ecology, or simply stumbled upon our website in pursuit of today’s curiosity, we welcome you and hope that you find what you are looking for. Our mission is to provide information about wild bees including diversity, ecology, flower preference, and flower ecology in order to increase understanding and awareness of pollinators and the services they provide.
Under the Bee Diversity tab, there is a list of bees present in the eastern North America which includes images and basic information about each species containing floral preferences, nesting habitats, and social behaviour. See the Nesting Biology tab to learn more about their habitat requirements. Our goal is to maintain a comprehensive compilation of these bees in order to better understand their roles as pollinators of our ecosystems.
It would be hard to study pollinators without considering the flora that they interact with, which is why you can find a collection of common flowering plants under the Bees and Flowers tab. Generalized information about plant families with links to supporting websites constitute the first portion of this page, along with more detailed descriptions and links about specific species.
Finally, take a minute to view the Keeping the Bees tab, where we outline proposed methods for living symbiotically with our native pollinators. Our suggestions are in part based in the research performed to maintain this website, and in part by experiments performed by our lab or other bee enthusiasts. Please explore these pages and the links to other sources of information that we have found useful and interesting.
Happy Beesearch!
